Discount Canadian airline Swoop will add five new U.S. destinations this summer.

By June 23, the carrier plans to have introduced service in New York JFK, Chicago O’Hare, Nashville, San Francisco and Burbank, Calif. Those cities will be added to the existing U.S. network of the WestJet subsidiary, which includes Las Vegas, Orlando Sanford, Phoenix Mesa, San Diego, Palm Springs and St. Pete-Clearwater.

Swoop will launch Nashville flights May 26 with five-times weekly service from Toronto. Twice-weekly Edmonton-Nashville service follows on June 19.

Swoop plans to enter Chicago on May 30 with five-times weekly service from Toronto. San Francisco service is slated to begin June 6 with four-times weekly service from Edmonton. The JFK launch comes next, with five-times weekly Toronto service beginning June 20. Swoop will begin serving the Los Angeles area on June 23 with thrice-weekly service between Edmonton and Burbank.

Swoop’s U.S. expansion signals a ramp-up in its battle with fellow Canadian ultralow-cost carrier Flair Air in the U.S.-Canada leisure market. Flair currently flies to six U.S. cities and will bring that total to nine by June while nearly tripling its total U.S. flight operations, Cirium flight schedule data shows.

Overall, Swoop plans to fly to 33 destinations in Canada, the U.S. and the Caribbean this summer, including 15 new destinations. The carrier expects to take delivery of six Boeing 737 Max 8s this year, augmenting its existing fleet of 10 Boeing 737-800s.
